Moving day!

Moving van with all our stuff

April 2nd we finally got to move all our stuff to our new apartment! I’m so happy to be moving, after living in a box-filled apartment for over a week.

We had hired a friend of my brother in law, who is a moving man (is that even a term in English?). So the friend had gotten a hold of a big moving van so we, thankfully, only needed 1 trip to move everything. We also recruited a bunch of our friends to help carry. I was very thankful that I started packing in good time, so we were actually about 95% packed when people started coming. The rest I packed while boxes were being carried down.

The moving van ended up being filled pretty good – though the last stuff wasn’t quite as effectively packed as the first, since there wasn’t any need to bother doing it as tightly as possible.
It was about 11 in the morning when we were done packing the van. Then we headed to our new apartment.

The pictures below are all taken the day we moved in – it’s crazy seeing how much shit we had in our old apartment (though some boxes are from our parents place, so it technically wasn’t in our old place). It’s amazing how much space the boxes take, and when they are unpacked you wonder why we needed so many boxes. 🙂

Unpacking the van took even longer than it took packing it, since everything had to be carried up to the 3rd floor. Sadly we didn’t have access to the basement room yet, so even the things we had planned on having in the basement had to be taken to the apartment.

I acted mostly as a coordinator, showing people where things belonged, so we didn’t have to move stuff around too much when we unpacked boxes.

After a couple of hours, everyone was exhausted and sweaty 🙂 . Then we ordered 10 pizzas to feed all 9 of us for lunch.

While waiting for the food to arrive we started unpacking the bedroom, so it was ready when we went to bed in the evening. We also assembled some furniture since we had some muscles to help lift large furniture into its place – like our sleeping couch, which is too heavy for us to move around alone.

When the food arrived everyone was so hungry that it didn’t take long before everyone had a piece of pizza in their hands. You can kind of see the aftermath of the lunch in the living room and kitchen pictures – a bunch of empty coke cans where we ate, and all the empty pizza boxes in the kitchen.
