2013 Week 32 Tuesday: Neuschwanstein Castle

A propella

Tuesday was a busy day with lots of walking. We started by driving to the Zeppelin museum, where we learned a lot about how they are build, and some facts about the Hindenburg and why it went so wrong. There was a lot of old original items, both from the Hindenburg and other zeppelins, like a propella which was crazy big, but I guess it had to be big to drive an entire zeppelin. Our guide was a really cool “old” guy, where you really could feel like he had a passion for zeppelins – he even got a trip on a zeppelin for his birthday. It was his first time doing a guide, but he really did a great job.

Then the bus drove to the Neuschwanstein castle parking lot, then the rest of the trip to the castle was by foot. We had to walk for around 40 minutes by foot, uphill to get to the castle, but the trip was through a forrest, where it had rained earlier so it was nice and chilly (and not crazy hot like it had been for the last many days). Once we were there we had a little bit of time before our tour started, so we tok pictures, sat down and just relaxed a bit. Sadly we weren’t allowed to take pictures inside (probably to get people to buy the picture books in the shop) but it was so over the top inside, so much stuff everywhere. You can really see that the guy used a lot of money on this, so it was kind of sad that he basically only used it a few times before he died.
Because we were so high up there was an amazing view basically from everywhere.

The alps of Austria!

On our way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where would stay the next 2 nights, we took a shortcut through Austria, as it would save us around half an hour. Molly and I shared a room again, in an amazing hotel room, with a balcony.
Because it had been so hot during the day, when the sun went down, the rain startet. It even hailed at one point. We were going to a restaurant to eat dinner and we got caught in the rain. The teachers and most of the students got a taxi, but left me and 3 others without real knowledge about where the restaurant was. But a kind man picked us up and drove us there (after being instructed via phone by the teacher).
