This Time Last Year: Getting Married!

On June 6th 2015, Kim and I tied the knot! Holy balls, I felt like such an adult. We had been planning this day for several months (with the incredible help of my wonderful mother – the planning would have been much more stressful without her) and now it was finally here!
We were so incredibly lucky with the weather – several weeks before (and several after) it was cloudy, cold and/or raining, but on our wedding day it was sunny and warm and lovely. We could not have asked for more.

We were married in our beautiful and modern local church, where our priest was such a great guy, with a great sense of humour. When I walked down the aisle I could not stop smiling – and when I saw Kim, and he saw me, I was so giddy my face almost hurt from smiling so hard. I found my seat next to the altar, and throughout the entire ceremony I kept smiling like a silly person every time I looked at Kim.

After the ceremony we took off to do some pictures in a garden of an old country house that was close by. We had hired a photographer to document the day, and make sure we had some high quality photos of us and our guests in our pretty clothes. All of our guests went straight to the reception location.
I had my two high school friends for bridesmaids (and toastmasters) so they were with Kim and I at the photo “shoot” to help make my dress look its best, with no folds or weirdness to it.

After shooting at several locations in the garden, we drove to the reception and joined our guests for some homemade strawberry cake, coffee and an aperitif.
During the reception up until the dinner was served, the photographer was a total ninja – I barely noticed him most of the time and he got a lot of wonderful pictures of our family and friends.
We had hired my parents neighbor as a DJ (he had all the equipment and knowledge) to come after dinner and start the party. His sound system was insane – definitely not a cheap setup. At first people just stood around and talked, but as the liquor was served, they started to take the dance floor.

As the evening went by our guests slowly started to go home. We weren’t having any of that, so we partied on and danced until 5 in the morning. Then Kim and I got a cab to a hotel we had reserved a room at, and went to bed.
The next day was cleanup day – thankfully hangover free. We got a lot of help from our family, which was totally needed, because cleaning up plates, glasses, trash and more after a party for over 50 people takes quite a while. Sadly Kim had not taken any change of clothes with him, so he had to clean in a suit and uncomfortable, dress shoes.
We had a great time with our friends and family, and we will cherish this day forever.
